I got this product because i have two other sets from this brand that my kid loves but i am unpleasantly surprised to notice a big difference in quality (and safety) between this set and the classic one!! The red tile in the pic is from this set. The yellow tile is from the classic one. The tiles are assembled differently. You can see the magnet and if you pull the 2 sides of the tile apart, it does not look too safe! For the classic set there is no way you can get to the magnet. The faces of the tiles have a different structure and are combined differently.

The thing is that magna tiles are by far the most expensive on the market and the reason one buys them and pays the extra is simply SAFETY. So this is a big flop to see such sloppy product.
Also when you stack more pieces together in sets of 10 you can see that the height does not add up to the same level.
I also attached below the answer from the company. Disappointing.

Immediately after opening the box and handling the tiles for the first time my husband and I both looked at each other an knew The tiles in this set were slightly off. There is a different hand feel to them — they feel slightly cheaper and weaker. I can't speak for the integrity and durability of these as we ultimately returned them. I would have thought these were knock offs if I didn't buy them myself. Upon comparing to the original magnatiles we own, we concluded the magnets are slightly different and plastic/molding seems very slightly different. Its not a big deal but if you play with these enough you will notice there is a subtle difference when handling them.

Magna -tiles are a great toy that allows free thought play for the child. Their imagination can run wild with these building manipulative. I’ve enjoyed building all sorts of structures with my grand daughter (3 1/2)with the tiles she currently has . I believe she will play with these for many years to come as the age limit on the tiles would be for 3-13?

If you are going to buy one present for a child, make it this one. This is the new age building block, and it is so much easier for small children to design dinosaur castles or parking garages than toys of old. The magnets are strong, and sealed inside well enough that I don't have to be nervous around kids. My one year old likes to teeth on the tiles, and my 2.5 year old is finally old enough to build things with help. It's suitable for all ages, because as an open ended toy the kids just make more and more elaborate creations as they grow older. We use these to practice patterns, color recognition, letter recognition (if you use a white board marker on the tiles), sorting, and many more activities. You can even use them on a light table to practice color combinations. Every family needs this set.
