Two hikers have drowned after one of them fell into the sea near Shek O on Sunday morning, and others jumped in to help.

Shortly before 1 pm today, a group of six people headed to Tai Tau Chau in Shek O for an outing. A 57-year-old woman accidentally slipped into the sea, and police were contacted immediately.

Two men who saw her fall immediately jumped into the water to rescue the drowning woman. The three were siblings, according to the police.

Marine police and rescue workers were alerted to the scene, rescuing a 55-year-old man and the woman, who were both in an unconscious state.

The other 61-year-old man climbed back to the shore on his own, having only suffered an injury to his right leg.

The unconscious man and woman were taken to the Eastern Hospital for urgent medical attention but were later pronounced dead.
