A large, stately, dry deciduous tree to more than 30 m tall with a straight, columnar trunk to over 60 cm in diameter. The yellow or red fruits are edible and the tree is sought after for its high quality, branch free timber. Clarisia racemosa is widely distributed in rainforests over Central and South America at low and moderate elevations. In cultivation it is best suited to tropical and frost free warm temperate climates.
