Hong Kong is best known for its skyscrapers and amazing “cityville”-like urban life. Little did we know that there are beaches accessible that makes it easy to have a bit of an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
REPULSE BAY
Located in the southern part of Hong Kong Island and the think the nearest beach from the city so it is good for a perfect escape. It is more like having a beach in the city as the place is surrounded by luxurious residential buildings and lots of establishments. There is also a temple on the bay.
Its name was derived from a 19th century battle in which the British Army ârepulsedâ the attacking pirates.
HOW TO GET THERE: Take bus 6, 6A, 6X, 66 or 260 from Exchange Square Building.
HOW TO GET TO EXCHANGE SQUARE BUILDING:
Take an MTR going to CENTRAL Station, take an upward escalator thru Exit A
Exchange Square Building is at the other side of this overpass. The bus station is at the ground floor.
Get on any of the following buses: 6, 6A, 6X, 66 or 260.
I took bus 260 because that’s the only bus scheduled as I arrived. Fare was HK$11.60
Alight at Repulse Bay Station. Repulse Bay is located along the road so you can easily find it.
Going back to Central, I took the Number 6 bus, fare was HK$5.6. I don’t know why there was a huge price difference though.
SHEK-O BEACH
Literally means âRocky Bayâ, Shek-O Beach is a bay village on the southeastern part of Hong Kong and has around 200 years of history. The beach is very picturesque and getting there is really an eye-candy!
Shek-O is my favorite from my Hong Kong journey. I got to relax from the very exhausting travel I have made while I was there in Hong Kong.
Most especially, you won’t get hungry because food stalls can be easily found anywhere in the area. â¤
HOW TO GET THERE: Take an MTR to SHAU KEI WAN Station. Use Exit A3.
Next, just walk straight and fall in line for Bus Number 9.
THIS IS ALSO THE BUS TO TAKE IF YOUâRE HIKING THE DRAGONâS BACK MOUNTAIN.
*It is important to bring a cloth or mat with you so you have something to sit on to. You don’t want to be sitting on the sand all the time.
*Have a sharp eye to find shade. Hahaha but seriously, Hong Kong can be super hot, especially in Summer. Or bring something as a make-shade or best, umbrella.
*SUNBLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*Drink lots of water
