The Pacific Gull is a big black winged gull endemic to the coasts of Tasmania and southern Australia. Recognisable by its uniquely massive thick bill and black tips to primary wing feathers, easily seen here. Can be confused with the Kelp Gull which is a fairly recent coloniser to Australia, probably from NZ see:- vimeo.com/123520922. This later species has a much finer beak and white tips to primary wing feathers. Filmed in the Port of Eden, which is in the far southeast corner of Australia, the Pacific Gull may be declining in Australia due to competition from the Kelp Gull.
