Malaysia's Roti Canai Named 2nd Best Street Food In The World

If you're in Malaysia, chances are you've had your fill of roti canai.

The humble pan-fried flatbread, often consumed for breakfast (and also lunch and dinner), is a staple across local restaurants. Consumed primarily for its affordability, the roti canai is pretty unique because it can be experimented in various styles.

You can either cook it crispy or add sugar to sweeten it. Some restaurants also serve roti canai with condensed milk, making it a delightful treat while others go further by adding cheese.

Due to its popularity and taste, the roti canai is ranked second in the world as the best street food by TasteAtlas.

The experiential travel guide for foodies ranked the dish after China's guotie, a type of dumpling filled with minced pork, cabbage, scallions, ginger, rice wine, and sesame seed oil, which came in first.

Spain's espetos came in third while Mexico's national dish, tacos, came fourth followed by carnitas, another favorite of Mexico's.

Japan's karaage pipped Vietnam's bánh mi to the sixth spot.
