Abstract

Mandarin orange is possibly a native of south east China and or south Japan. It is extensively cultivated in China, south of the Qin Ling, Taiwan, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Japan, Java, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and the Philippines. It was introduced to Europe only at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The commercial cultivation of mandarin oranges in the United States has developed mostly in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi and, to a lesser extent, in Texas, Georgia and California. Mexico and Brazil also has extensive plantings.
